The GALA Choruses board sometimes chooses cities in which Festival has previously been held because there are a limited number of locations that have the number, size and quality of performance spaces within close proximity of each other that this unique event requires. This has become an increasingly constraining factor as Festival has continued to grow through the years—a good problem to have! In addition, we consider the location’s distance, ease, and cost of travel involved for the majority of Festival delegates. We are considering three new host cities for 2032 that have never held a GALA Festival before.
For Festival 2028, the GALA Choruses board decided to host it in Minneapolis because they knew that former executive director Robin Godfrey was going to retire following the 2024 GALA Festival. They wanted to ensure a smooth transition for the then yet-to-be-appointed executive director and team by being able to make use of knowledge and processes already developed.
