Review Board Member Job Description >

Election Process

The Governance Committee Chair conducts an initial interview of potential Board candidates. The candidates then complete an application and a “skills matrix” that identifies their strengths. Applicants who return a completed application and skills matrix are given an opportunity to join a GALA Committee. If the Governance Committee determines to move forward with an application, two current Board members would conduct interviews with the applicant and two of their references. The interviewers then report back to the Governance Committee about the interviews. Based on all of the information available, the Governance Committee makes decisions about which applicants to put forward to the full Board for a vote. In the fall, the full Board votes on new Board members, whose terms would begin in January of the next year.

“Serving on the GALA board has completely exceeded my expectations. I came on board with some skepticism as to the viability of the association, but the turnaround process has been a pleasure to be involved with and committed to. My service has been filled with highly satisfying opportunities both in terms of professional achievement and interpersonal relationships. I will be very sad to end my term and hope to continue to serve in whatever capacities the board finds appropriate and useful.”
