Sunday Morning Plenary Session

The GLBT Choral Movement: The Next Twenty Five Years

Facilitators: Eve Campbell, Consultant; Steve Smith, Executive Director, Boston Gay Men’s Chorus

Geared to: all levels

Since GALA Choruses was founded, the glbt landscape has changed dramatically. Is it the best of times or the worst of times for our organizations? Has the atmosphere of political division and the resurgence of the religious right enhanced our relevance to our communites or has the homogenization and commercialization of glbt culture stolen our thunder? Our choruses share a love of music and a desire to impact society, but how do geography, gender, local politics, and differing levels of artistic ambition affect our work and our relationships? How can we positively support and challenge one another through the coming 25 years?

Eve Campbell and Steve Smith have worked for and consulted with dozens of glbt choruses large and small, gay, lesbian, and mixed, from all corners of the country. With no agenda other than a candid and lively conversation, they will lead all conference participants in a fresh look at where the movement is going "and needs to go" in the 21st century.

Benefits:

  1. Participate in a conversation that spans the full GALA community
  2. Learn from and share with your colleagues on some of the most basic issues facing us
  3. Help build a consensus for the direction of our movement
