What is "Speed Dating with the Experts"?
Do you have a burning question that you’d love to have answered by a chorus industry leader? Do you want insight that goes beyond general information available in breakout sessions? Sign up for one of our unique offerings: Speed Dating with the Experts!
You’ve Got 12 Minutes and Counting, So Ask Away!
Speed Dating sessions are 12-minute, one-on-one private consultations with leading industry experts, such as artistic and executive directors, consultants, board members etc., who volunteer their time to be available to our attendees.
Up to two sessions are available and free of charge to every attendee and give you the opportunity to get knowledgeable answers and advice about issues that your own choral group is facing! This is an opportunity to discuss anything from fundraising strategies or attracting more tenors, to hiring and firing an executive director.
How Do I Particpate?
When you register for the conference on-site, look for the Speed Dating sign-up table in the registration area where there will be a timeslot master sheet. Sign-up is on a first-come, first-served basis and will fill up quickly. More than one person from the same organization is permitted to attend a Speed Dating session, but we request that delegates only sign up for themselves, and not for others. As some Speed Dating consultants only offer limited time slots, it is very important to let the coordinator at the sign up table know if your plans change and you will be unable to attend your assigned session.
Saturday Evening
Banquet
Saturday evening will feature a cash bar reception, buffet dinner, a multimedia 25th anniversary presentation and a silent auction. The banquet is included in the cost of conference registration. Additional tickets can be purchased for partners, spouses or friends not attending the full conference. During the banquet at the Annual Conference there will be a multimedia presentation showing the history of GALA Choruses, the GLBT movement, and the world in general over the last 25 years. We also plan to use this presentation at the festival.
How can you help?
Get this information to your chorus archivist so he/she can:
- Pull pictures from your archives that show:
- your group in performance (we prefer action shots rather than full group poses)
- critical/important events in the history of your chorus
- candid shots from chorus parties, retreats, talent shows
- buttons or posters from your chorus' history
- Convert your photos into bitmap files and provide the following detail about the picture in an email:
- Chorus name
- Date the picture was taken (the year at least)
- Any pertinent details (i.e. concert name, event name, etc...)
- Email your pictures and details to: GALAretrospective@gmail.com
- Some notes about your pictures/electronic files:
*We prefer your files to be in non-compressed files, or bitmap files (.BMP) but if all your photos are jpeg (.JPG) we will be happy to accept those, though they may not appear as clear and crisp in the final presentation.
*If you do not have your photos in electronic version, you can go to your local Kinkos and scan them there into bitmap files. The Kinkos staff can help walk you through the process.
While we can not guarantee that all of your photos will be used, if you don't submit them the won't have a chance to be included.
Sunday Evening
Pajama Party
Don your best jammies and head for the ballroom on Sunday at 8 PM for our first ever conference pajama party. The entertainment will include performances by the ensembles participating in the small ensemble workshops followed by a movie. GALA Choruses Board members will be on hand to serve your popcorn, candy and beverages! Other surprises on are the works, so check back often.
